With his side trailing 2-0 away from home in the first leg, Christian sent in the corner which led to Nicolai Jørgensen pulling a goal back with 10 minutes remaining, meaning Sweden now carry a slender 2-1 lead into Tuesday’s return match in Copenhagen. The winners over the two legs will earn a spot at next summer’s tournament finals.
Christian completed the full 90 minutes in Sweden.
Elsewhere on Saturday, Nabil Bentaleb marked his return from injury as he played the second half of Algeria’s 2-2 draw away to Tanzania in 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying. Nabil’s side had to come back from two goals down to level things up. They’ll meet the same opponents on Algerian soil on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, young midfielder Charlie Owens went on as a 79th-minute substitute for Northern Ireland Under-19s as they drew 1-1 in Russia in a European qualifier. Academy team-mate Chris Paul was also on the bench.
SUNDAY ACTION
Josh Onomah and Kyle Walker-Peters are with England Under-19s for a home friendly against Japan today (Sunday, November 15).
Another of our youngsters, Cameron Carter-Vickers, also has a friendly match on his radar. His US Under-23 side is away to Brazil in the second of two consecutive matches against the same opponents this week.
